Delft, a city renowned for its rich history, technological innovation and home to our BK-Launch platform and office. Delft is particularly presented through initiatives associated with Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) and because of this image of innovation other initiatives are starting to arise. So here is part one of the series where we highlight some of the platforms, spaces and organisations within Delft that foster entrepreneurship and innovation.

Innovation District Delft

The Innovation District is an urban development in Delft which already is starting to foster on a small scale a dynamic area designed to stimulate collaboration between academia, industry, and startups. It encompasses various research institutes, incubators, and co-working spaces, creating a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship.

This district is and will provide even more in the future a new area in delft where knowledge exchange and partnerships flourish, contributing to the city's reputation as a centre for technological advancement. It is an attractive collective facilities in the area and physical and digital meeting places have been encouraged to invite people to meet each other. The scope of the project will include people who live and work in the area and the adjacent city districts, residents of Delft, South Holland and the Netherlands. Young people can develop their talents there in education and internships at all levels. The innovation district thus contributes to the broad prosperity of Delft and the region.

The students of the Urban development management program from the MBE master at TU Delft are currently starting to learn how to create such an environment and went on a field trip to the district. Although the project is still being developed, small businesses can already use the area on a temporary basis. The master coordinator Aksel Ersoy took the students on the field trip so they could learn and witness how the project team is already started on making the area attractive and easy to access.

The Delft Innovation District will make a positive contribution to the major social challenges that are also felt in the region and city in relation to climate change, aging and energy transition. An integrated approach has been proposed to create space for new business and innovative manufacturing companies that can stay in the city. This creates jobs at all levels. The parties also want to ensure a better connection between the innovative manufacturing industry and education.
