Het Financieele Dagblad is writing an ongoing series on European innovation hubs or “broedplaatsen” in dutch. It are regional hubs where you will spot a lot of climate tech innovation. Edinburgh is featured for its strong academic base, progressive climate policy, and legacy in the energy sector.

Researcher Jip Leendertse (TU Delft) provided input during the early stages of the series to help identify promising regions, including Edinburgh. The article highlights local entrepreneurs such as Ed Mitchard (Space Intelligence) and Oleg Ishkov (Rockit), whose start-ups reflect the city’s mix of academic, industrial, and environmental strengths.
