Green Village Award winner: Panestry

Panestry develops moss-covered roof tiles that help cities and homes adapt to a changing climate. By integrating living moss into traditional slanted roof tiles, Panestry reduces the need for summer cooling and winter heating, while contributing to biodiversity, water retention, and CO₂ binding.

Unlike many existing green roof solutions, which mainly focus on flat roofs, Panestry’s tiles are designed to fit existing slanted roofs without increasing structural load. They are easy to install, compatible with current roofing practices, and suitable for both new construction and renovation.

At The Green Village, Panestry will test their tiles on a full-scale roof. The pilot focuses on three goals: understanding long-term moss growth and durability, measuring thermal performance, and demonstrating the visual and ecological value of a fully grown moss roof. The Green Village Award provides the ideal environment to validate the concept and inspire future partners to help scale this nature-inclusive solution.
