For Build for Change, architecture is not only about what gets built. Their work focuses on using architecture as a tool for learning and empowerment, giving communities the knowledge and skills to develop building solutions that work with locally available resources.
Through their Architecture as an Educational Tool for Sustainable Development (AETSD) Framework, Build for Change brings together community members, students and experts to co-create solutions. This includes exploring local materials, developing appropriate construction methods and, importantly, sharing the knowledge needed to continue building locally.
The venture is now starting its work in Nepal together with local partners, including the Centre for Indigenous Peoples’ Research and Development (CIPRED).
Their approach has now earned Build for Change a place in the final of the Social Impact Award Germany. Alongside the main award, finalists have the opportunity to win the Community Award through a public vote.
